When do I need a structural engineer?
If you’re planning alterations to your home – such as opening up a kitchen, converting a loft or building an extension – it’s likely that you will need the expertise of a structural engineer. Our primary role is to help ensure that your proposed works will be not only structurally sound, but importantly will meet the requirements of Part A (Structure) of the Building Regulations.
Structural engineers work closely with designers to ensure your ideas are not just creative, but are buildable. You’ll typically need input from an engineer if you’re removing load-bearing walls, creating large openings, extending or creating a new build home. Engineers are also able to assist if you notice any signs of structural distress, such as cracks or sagging in any walls or beams.
