Sleek & sustainable modernist home
IVAN JONES
This breathtaking five-bedroom house replaces a dilapidated property, which had fallen into disrepair after much of its original structure partially collapsed. A unique slipped plan was designed by BakerBrown Architects to provide generous accommodation for the owners, while respecting the stunning characteristics of the site – namely the trees, stream and calming views of the Weald. The form of the building has been broken down into two barn-like volumes, connected by a central glazed entrance lobby. The southern block comprises the openplan kitchen and living areas, which elegantly blend into one another. The more private bedrooms and family rooms are arranged in the northern block, which enjoys views of a huge Acer tree via floor-to-ceiling glazing.
