SLIDING DOOR COST GUIDE
A good set of sliders represents a sizeable chunk of your project budget, so you'll want value for money. Here’s what you should expect to pay and the key factors that influence final costs
To maximise the opening, this fourpanel set of IDSystems' theEDGE2.0 doors features three sliding units that glide behind a fixed panel – perfectly framing countryside views from this rural Norfolk home. Measuring a total of 5,985mm (W) x 2,353mm (H) and finished in RAL 7016 anthracite grey matt, with stainless steel handles, a similar slider would cost around £11,750 + VAT (inCcluding installation)

When it comes to aspirational features, glazed doors are right up there on the dream home wish list – whether you’re planning a self build, home renovation or extension. Sliding versions offer the opportunity to maximise views and daylight, with slim profiles and minimal framing compared to alternatives like bifolds. But what should you budget for a quality installation? Like most things in life, you can’t expect to get a mid-range or high-end door system at a bargain price. You get what you pay for, so if the price seems low, it’s important to ask why. Could this be an indication that the construction, energy performance and/or running mechanisms aren’t quite up to scratch?
The best way to gain confidence that you’re buying a sliding door you can rely on is to visit showrooms and past projects to scrutinise them in person. Tell-tale signs of a good quality sliding door system include robust running gear (steel is more hardwearing than nylon, so generally better for larger panels); neat frame joints; reliable seals and gaskets etc. If you like what you see, then always ask for certificates backing up the performance claims (weathertightness, security etc), and read the small print on warranties to understand how comprehensive they are on aspects such as finishes and running gear.
