Solar hot water
Discoer how ou could harness ree energ ro the sun to roide lentiul hot water
oe lat late systems – like this one ro Grant UK – are a sleek way to incororate solar thermal technology
Solar thermal technology converts warmth from the sun to provide domestic hot water (DHW) for showering, bathing, washing up etc. Don’t get this confused with solar PV, which generates electricity from the sun’s rays. Solar thermal is pretty low tech; transferring heat energy from the roof-mounted panels into a cylinder.
Since it uses free energy to heat water, there are zero carbon emissions. Typically, it will satisfy around 50% of a household’s DHW demand.
“So, you can enjoy lower energy bills as a result,” says Matthew Beales, who is on the renewables team at Grant UK. Plus, there are plenty of good systems manufactured here in the UK (so there’s no excessive shipping), and the components are relatively easy to recycle, making the tech sustainable on many fronts.
