Keeping active has long been the story for people who are older - but the campaign to keep our youngsters seeking out sport as a past time has really taken hold in Oban after a number of years of having an area co-ordinator for the Active Schools programme.
Gillian Walker, Oban, Lorn and the Isles Active Schools co-ordinator said the part of her job she likes the most is working with different people who are keen to share their sport with others.
Gillian said: Along with Nona Thomas, who is the Active Schools Co-ordinator for Oban High School and Islay, we run clubs throughout the area with the support of volunteers. We also work well alongside the sports development officers Martin Rae, Allan Wright and Euan McMurdo.
‘Our volunteers are people who want to give something back because of the enjoyment and friendship they have from their own sport.’
