DR RANJ SINGH and WAYNE DHESI
WAYNE DHESI, FOUNDER OF RUCOMINGOUT, DR RANJ SINGH, DOCTOR // TV PRESENTER
Over the past few months I’ve started to find that I get really bad hangovers – not just physically but mentally, too.
At uni I’d drink a lot, and wake up with a headache. Now the headaches are worse and I am depressed for at least a day. I’m only drinking five pints. I can cope at weekends, but it’s affecting me at work, too. What do you suggest, other than going teetotal? My work has a strong drinking culture, so it would be hard to avoid drinking midweek.

→ WAYNE: Finding that your hangovers get worse over time is nothing new — we all experience that! However, if they’re having a major impact on your life, then it’s time you had a serious think about your drinking habits.
Hangovers are a constellation of unpleasant physical and mental symptoms that occur after a bout of heavy alcohol drinking. The amount taken to induce a hangover varies from person to person, as do the symptoms. Headaches, fatigue, nausea and vomiting, and mood disturbance (such as depression or anxiety) are all common features. Although there are lots of theories as to what causes them, the common underlying reason is the same: too much alcohol.
