A journey of self-discovery has led to Swing Out Sister’s first new album in a decade. Corinne Drewery and Andrew Connell return with Almost Persuaded on 25 June and it was all made possible by a fan-assisted PledgeMusic campaign.
“It’s been a journey, that’s for sure, and it’s been interesting to be given such encouraging, and often insightful, feedback,” remarks Corinne. “It’s certainly taken longer than even we anticipated, and I think the journey became more important than the destination for us. We haven’t had the chance to work this way before, and it does become intoxicating to see and hear the sounds and images come together while we’re still working on them.”
This is a more compact sound for Swing Out Sister which includes the song I Wish I Knew, boasting a melody Corinne first sung to her mum aged five years old. Corinne says: “Almost Persuaded has been a rewarding new way to share what we’re about. A little like the way filmmakers have tended to move away from making a two-hour movie, and embraced the Netflix series, or the boxset, in order to explore the themes and characters over a longer period, and see how they might grow and develop in unexpected ways.”
