Essential Kitchen Bathroom Bedroom  |  November 2015
If you’re loving the look of all of the beautiful and luxurious marble which is so on-trend in interiors right now, you’re going to seriously swoon when you see our featured bathroom on page 118. Floor-to-ceiling marble defines this open-plan scheme which looks right out onto panoramic views of Tel Aviv and was designed by Morten Bo Jensen at Vipp. The same stunning apartment and designer feature in our leading real-life kitchen project. With a freestanding steel island, supersized and powder-coated in black, this loft apartment brings industrial luxe to a new level. Turn to Urban Renewal on page 22 for more. Both of these schemes bring to mind a new mood in kitchens and bathrooms, which is that the dream kitchen and bathroom may no longer be too ‘kitcheny’ or too ‘bathroomy’. The ideal for many now is to have functional and high-tech spaces that can also take on other forms – for example, kitchens are also expected to be somewhere to socialise, spend time with the family and wind down at the end of every day. For bathrooms we see more soft furnishings, statement lighting and dressing areas within the overall schemes, which give these rooms a sense of ‘home’ and comfort rather than just function and utility. Staff writer Lucy Macdonald explores this idea further. In Out of Sight (page 96) she looks at how so much ‘hidden technology’ has developed now in order to fulfil the new calling for the concealed and the discreet. So whereas a few years ago it was all about statement appliances, now we want to keep the look streamlined and clean. These appliances ensure that we still have the best technology on offer, but they are stowed away and not shouted about necessarily, while also incorporating wireless technology into the overall look. It’s a brave new world... Enjoy the issue.
