Keeping fit is part of who I am I believe if you’re active as a child, you tend to be in adulthood, too, and I work out three or four times a week. research supports this. I loved sport when I was little. I can’t say I train to the levels I used to as an international player now – thank God! – but if I don’t exercise, I miss the feeling, the endorphins, you get from working out. Depending on where I am in the world,
You have to make yourself heard I’m quite a strong character; I can hold my own. Football was a man’s world, so at times it’s been challenging. I’ve felt I had to be better than anyone else to prove I was good enough to do the job. I worked hard to make sure I produced the best I could at any moment and I’ve achieved a lot of firsts, such as being the first female England manager.
Pressure is a privilege I relish being at the forefront, making quick decisions, and living or dying by them. The pressure is constant, it’s not just nine to five, but you just have to get on and do the job. I know it doesn’t always feel like it, but I think if you’re prepared to work hard, then you are rewarded.
