As we all become increasingly aware of climate change and the devastating effects it is having on the world around us, we have become more focused on the causes behind it all. On page 16-22 you will find Sue Cunningham's story of photographing the indigenous people of the Xingu river tributary in South America’s Amazon basin and how her journey led her to a deep appreciation of the Amazon's environmental problems.
It’s stories like this that make us even more aware of the importance of global co-operation in everything we do.
As landscape photographers we are accutely aware of nature and its forces and the importance of what we convey with our images, which hopefully make viewers think, and appreciate and respect nature in all its forms.
One of the greatest ways to celebrate nature is to focus on the colours we see around us. On page 25 Pete Bridgwood talks of his love of colour and how modern technology has brought many possibilities for enhancement of our images. On pages 36-37 Niall Benvie looks at how split toning, once the domain of black & white photography, can now produce wonderful results
in colour.
Finally, let ’s not forget about the seeming chaos of nature – on page 50-51 Rachael Talibart finds pattern and unpredictability in the pounding waves of Nazaré’s beaches in Portugal and learns to accept life as it comes.
