HERITAGE railways planning to run festive ‘Polar Express’ services this Christmas have had to inform customers the trains will not go ahead after organisers and licence holders, PNP Events, pulled the plug as a result of the continuing challenges of Covid-19 restrictions.
The ‘Polar Express’ experiences are based on the popular Christmas computer-animated film, and have become increasingly popular on preserved lines in recent years, the event being staged on the main line by Vintage Trains.
The on-going effects of the coronavirus pandemic have already seen the number of railways hosting the ‘Polar Express’ this year fall to just two, but both the South Devon Railway and Wensleydale Railway were going ahead with the operation until PNP Events announced the cancellation on October 22.
