PREPARING THE WAY: Between October 30 and November 1, a series of Freightliner locomotive movements took place, originating at the operator’s Southampton Maritime Terminal for route learning ahead of planned new aggregate traffic between Westbury and Crawley New Yard. The trains will be pathed via the Coastway West route, with the Arun Valley line, which was also included in the itinerary, as a diversionary route. Class 66 No. 66501 Japan 2001 is pictured passing through Goring-on-Sea station on the outward (Southampton Maritime-Crawley New Yard) leg of the first run on October 30.

OPERATED by DB Cargo UK for Maritime Transport, the London Gateway to SEGRO Logistics Park East Midlands Gateway working on the morning of September 28 formed part of a three-leg lower emissions journey for one of the intermodal containers onboard.
Unloaded from the Laura Maersk, anew vessel built with the aim of reducing greenhouse gas output by running on methanol, the rainbow container headed northwards as part of a train hauled by a hydro-treated vegetable oil-fuelled Class 66. HVO emissions are estimated to be up to 90% lower than diesel.
The final leg of the container’s trip was to Maersk’s warehouse facility by electric lorry.
