■ FFESTINIOG Railway’s Double-Fairlie David Lloyd George, withdrawn last October, was tested between the Cob and Cemetery Cutting on May 17, on completion of its rapid (early) 10-year overhaul. Following touching up in the paint shop it returned to passenger service on May 28, hauling the 10.45 ‘Mountain Spirit’ service to Blaenau Ffestiniog, followed by an afternoon ‘Woodland Wanderer’ run to Tan-y-Bwlch.
■ BRECON Mountain Railway’s (BMR) Baldwin 4-6-2 (BLW61269/1930) No. 2 returned to service at the end of May. It had been withdrawn for overhaul in early 2019, its place being filled by the entry into service in June 2019 of Baldwin 2-6-2 No. 1 Santa Teresa (BLW15515/1897) on completion of its restoration. The BMR now therefore has two operational large 2ft gauge Baldwins.
