It is increasingly clear that the only hope for our wildlife is shooting.
The latest figures show that, in my lifetime, the number of breeding farm and woodland birds has halved. This frightening trend shows no sign of abating, with farmland birds dropping by 11 per cent since 2008. This week we visit two shoots in Essex, both exemplary in their ways: one for the way the Young Shots behaved in the field and the other for the team effort and fabulous dog work.
