When it comes to trail running, there has been one thing that has been a constant through the years. And this time, not in a good way. This constant companion is a bit more sinister than my trusty trainers, sports bra or Buff. It’ll often creep up on me when I least expect it to and often -upon finishing a run – it can quite literally take my breath away.
Can you guess what it is yet? No? Let me enlighten you – it’s the dreaded chafe. Back when I started running in 2009, I had the misfortune of experiencing severe inner-thigh chafe on one of my first runs due to not knowing any better.
I didn’t know that, to stop my inner thighs becoming red raw, I would need to wear tight shorts that ended above the knee and would act as a barrier between my thighs. I’m a woman who has never had a thigh gap, so finding the right pair of shorts was a game changer for me.
