The history

The Book Guild was founded in 1993 as a publishing house with a partnership-publishing element. Based in Brighton & Hove, it published up to 100 books a year across all genres. The company applied a traditional publishing model to self-publishing at the top end of the market, and while it had a good reputation, it had lagged behind recent developments in the author services market. The previous owners made no secret of the fact that new impetus was needed for the company to move forward and thrive in an increasingly competitive market.
