ALL POULTRY classes have been plucked from this year’s Royal Highland Show (RHS) line-up amid bird flu concerns.
Despite the fact that the birds have been free to roam throughout Scotland since the beginning of May, RHS manager David Jackson defended the decision to pull them from the line-up saying that all health and safety issues had to be taken seriously.
The Scottish government put an avian numinfluenza prevention zone in place in December last year which required all poultry and captive birds to be kept indoors or in a covered run, following a number of outbreaks of the disease across the country.
