METRONOMY
SMALL WORLD
BECAUSE MUSIC
★★★
It was probably unwise to imagine Joe Mount could maintain the jollity characterising 2019’s Metronomy Forever, praised in these pages for “route one bangers”, and by opening with the downbeat Life And Death’s sparse, echoing piano and pre-programmed lo-fi rhythm he offers fair warning. Not that he can’t provide reminders of his former state: Things Will Be Fine is as perky as late China Crisis, and It’s Good To Be Back is an infectiously frolicsome number .
