Watts: the big idea
In Issue 719 we tested Chinese manufacturer GMKtec’s NucBox G10 (www.snipca.com/56114), and while it’s very cheap at just £270 and delivers solid performance in office software, its six-year-old processor gave us pause for thought. It left us wondering whether GMK could squeeze more power out of a mini PC with more cutting-edge components. The M6 Ultra goes some way to answering that question.
Lets you choose 35, 45 or 50 Watts to stop it overheating
Where the G10 is built around the AMD Ryzen 5 3500U chip (released in 2019), the M6 comes with the two-year-old Ryzen 5 7640HS. You not only get two additional cores and four more threads (for six cores and 12 threads in total) to ensure improved video and image-editing. It also includes support for DDR5 memory and PCIe 4.0 SSDs for much faster file-transfer speeds.
