TIP OF THE FORTNIGHT

Always play a sound when files have transferred

I often use the excellent TeraCopy (www.snipca.com/59617) to transfer large files between my work PC and a laptop I use only for personal reasons, so was pleased to see version 4.0 has finally been released (Issue 740, page 18).

It sometimes takes up to an hour for my files to be transferred, and it’s vital for me to know that they’ve been moved successfully. The way I get this confirmed is by telling TeraCopy to play a sound when the process has completed. I can then read or catch up on paperwork while I wait.

To access this option, launch TeraCopy then click the cog icon at the top right. Now, in the Preferences box that appears, look for the ‘On finish’ heading top right. Tick ‘Play sound’ ( 1 in our screenshot) then click OK.

There’s also an option to show a notification 2 when the transfer finishes, but that would mean I’d keep having to glance at the screen. For my purposes, a sound alert is more suitable.
