7. Extra Clip detail and chance events
>In the Clip Detail View you now get a lot more options shown and with a more logical layout with extra tabs shown over on the right hand side.
>
We’ve covered one of the extra tabs in the Clip Detail View which covers MPE editing (p26), but the note tab also offers some great additions to clip editing, including some designed to give you a human and more random feel to your beats and music. Here we have a drum kit and pattern in a clip. 3
>Under the Notes tab, there are two Random Velocity and Randomize Probability (called Note Chance. in the final version) options that can be clicked in and out by clicking the orange icons (circled in red).
>Select all of your notes and hit Randomize Velocity and you can see all of the note velocities are randomised each time. This is great for adding a more human feel into your drumming.
>If you want to do this on a specific sound – the closed hat, for example, which adds a very nice human touch – simply select that sound only and set a random velocity.
>You can take it one step further – and again the closed hat is a good sound to try this with – by clicking the Randomize Probability option. This randomises whether the hit will actually happen on every cycle, adding a great variation between loops.
>This random element is not just for beats – although very useful for them – as you can also apply it to MIDI melodic notes. Here we’ve applied it to a bassline to give it more of an acoustic feel rather than a synthetic one.
>While we’re in this clip, we should also take a look at the additional Follow Actions that now feature an option to be linked to the Clip Length so you can create more dynamic sequences.
>Another new Follow Action option in the latest version is to be able to Jump to a specific clip or even a complete Scene which allows for a lot more flexibility when it comes to arranging.
