> In production terms, the acoustic piano sound is a timeless classic, but beautiful as it is, sometimes we want a sound which is more contemporary.
The electric piano as an instrument is steeped with association with certain styles of jazz and funk – the Fender Rhodes was popular in the 60s and 70s for a reason. But while you can certainly use those sounds in a more contemporary setting, sometimes you want a sound which will cut in a mix, and sound different, up-to-date, and stylish.
So this month, armed with a copy of our awesome u-he ZebraCM, we replicate many of the settings found on an acoustic or electric piano, but change the overall timbre considerably, by using some overtly digital wave forms. The net result is a sound which is great for many commercial settings, including drum&bass and commercial pop.
