Our last Modalics deal was a runaway success, so when the opportunity arose to feature another of their fantastic plugins, naturally we jumped at the chance. Said plugin is Modalics BitFuzzer, and this month this $29 plugin is yours absolutely free.
BitFuzzer (AU, AAX, VST, VST3) is a plugin with attitude. It combines bitcrusher, fuzz and distortion in what Modalics call an ‘unholy alliance’, and with presets such as Death Star and Disintigrate, who are we to argue.
The plugin features an easy to use interface with plenty of visual feedback, so you can see as well as hear the distortion curve applied to the signal. Sounds can be further finessed using the filter and EQ stages, while additional parameters help you tailor the outcome. Of course there are ample presets and these provide instant results or a good starting point for more extensive tweaking. There’s also a handy parallel option to further expand the sonic flexibility.
In this tutorial we’ll show you how to claim, register and download your free copy. Then we’ll get you up and running, and take you on a tour of its key features. Then it’s time for a more detailed look at what’s included and what BitFuzzer can do, trying it out on some typical distortion targets. Along the way we should achieve Modalics’ aim to ’destroy waveforms and make a beautiful mess’.
Finally, it’s worth saying that Modalics have a growing stable of excellent plugins including the super creative Beat Scholar rhythm programmer, and their latest venture, MINDst Drums, which is a highly realistic acoustic drum kit instrument.
