FRIDGING THE GAP
London’s first community fridge, inspired by similar projects in Spain, Germany and India, has opened its doors in Pop Brixton. Local traders and the public can drop off edibles, ready to be picked up by anyone who needs them. The food is checked for safety by a team of volunteers.
The People’s Fridge co-founder Olivia Haughton explains: “Within a five-minute walk of the fridge there are more than 200 traders who produce a huge amount of food waste. This is a good test, and we hope to see other fridges launch in London soon.”
