THE COOKBOOK
Good Good Food: Recipes to help you look, feel and live well by Sarah Raven
(£25; Bloomsbury)
Well known as a gardener, TV presenter, author and cook, Sarah Raven started her professional life as a doctor – and the fact that she has medical experience inspires an immediate sense of confidence. No spurious health claims or fashion-led eating here.
Sarah’s aim in writing this book is clear: “Choosing the best, non-faddy superfoods that can really make a difference to your health… then offering you my best ideas on how to eat them.” The opening chapter sets out her common-sense approach to eating well and healthily, including what to eat/drink and what to avoid.
Throughout the text are fact boxes on 100 or so ingredients, from the ordinary (lentils, olive oil, chocolate) to the moderately trendy (pomegranates, goji berries, freekeh), with research-based information on their health-giving properties. Later chapters are all about the food: lots of well conceived recipes for breakfast, soups, salads, puds and more.
