Berlin on the menu
The cosmopolitan German capital has it all going on, from world-class street food to multi-Michelin-starred fanciness. You’ll need to pound the strasses to seek it out, so don’t forget to make time for a cool beer, says Fiona Sims

MINE’S A WEISSE
Beer is an integral part of German culture, so a visit to a beer garden is a must. The city’s oldest is Prater (prater-biergarten.de/en), where you can drink beers from light to dark under chestnut trees on Kastanienallee, a stylish street. For a modern spin, head to BRLO (en.brlo.de) in the Gleisdreieck area, where a creative team brew on site. The sour beers rock, and there’s a vegetable-focused menu to match. If a stellar schnitzel is calling, check out Zollpackhof (zollpackhof.de/en), where you can choose between the wood-panelled dining room or a seat by the river Spree, with its views over the German Chancellery.
