Canon EOS R6
Boasting many of the same features as the EOS R5 but costing significantly less, is the EOS R6 the better buy?
Price: £2,499 / $2,499
While the EOS R5 might be grabbing all the headlines with a mouthwatering list of features to appeal to both professionals and enthusiasts, it’s the more affordable EOS R6 that’s perhaps going to have the much broader appeal. This is thanks to its strong feature set, most of which has been borrowed from the R5, while costing significantly less. The real question, then, is whether the EOS R6 is the real jewel in the crown of Canon’s mirrorless line-up.
Key features
Instead of the 45MP sensor the EOS R5 enjoys, the EOS R6 sensor is a much more modest affair at just 20.1MP. It’s closely related to the one found in Canon’s flagship EOS-1D X Mark III, while it’s been paired with Canon’s latest DIGIC X processor that sees a native ISO range of 100-102,400. If you need to, the sensitivity range can be expanded to an equivalent of ISO 50 and 204,800.
The EOS R6’s video credentials aren’t quite as impressive as the R5’s 8K capabilities, but there’s still the option to shoot footage in 4K UHD at up to 60p (with a very minor crop of 1.05x) in either 8-bit or 10-bit, while Full HD videos can be captured at 120p.
