DIVA MEETS
DIVA Meets: Midgitte Bardot
THE DRAG ARTIST TALKS DWARFISM, REPRESENTATION AND RAGE WORDS GEORGIA DIMDORE-MILES
Midgitte Bardot is the outrageous drag alter-ego of Tammy Reynolds. Both a “rockstar” and “robust liability”, they tell me that they created Midgitte “to healthily deal with the anger towards the harassment I have faced for having dwarfism”.
They have just completed their role in Travis Alabanza’s play/cabaret, Sound Of The Underground, when we sit down to chat. With the performance being a radical critique of the commercialisation of drag, they reflect on their own feelings about this. “I don’t like any industry really and that is the problem. It feels really weird to go back to living it again after reflecting on it for so long during the play. The industry is hurting so many people and putting too much pressure on our bodies.”They add with a knowing grin, “There’s not much rest for the wicked, and good lord we are wickedly talented.”
