Editor’s letter
Do you remember the first time you saw a queer character on TV? Or read a novel with a gay protagonist, heard a love song by a woman using “she/her” pronouns or saw an out and proud public figure living their life and being unapologetically awesome? What was your “first gay sighting”? Maybe it was watching Suranne Jones striding about in a top hat breaking ladies’ hearts in Gentleman Jack or reading Radclyffe Hall’s cheerfully titled 1928 novel, The Well Of Loneliness. Perhaps it was listening to Hayley Kiyoko, aka Lesbian Jesus, singing “Girls like girls like boys do, nothing new” or witnessing A-lister Lena Waithe absolutely rocking the red carpet, resplendent in a billowing rainbow flag cape.
