Person of the Month
Paris Lees
Congratulations to Paris Lees who has been named as Vogue’s first transgender columnist in 125 years. Lees, who started her writing career with DIVA magazine, will pen fortnightly columns on life as a millennial woman living in London. The 29-year-old said: “My transition to Carrie Bradshaw is complete – not bad for a girl from a council estate!” Thanking editor Edward Enninful, Lees went on: “It feels like the trans community have been under constant attack in Britain over the past few years. Yet, disgracefully, there isn’t a single trans person writing for any of the national newspapers on a regular basis. It’s wonderful to see British Vogue supporting me, our community and this global movement. When I was growing up, you rarely saw trans people in public life and only then as objects of ridicule, pity or disgust. Thank god that’s changing. We’ve still got a long way to go before we reach equality and it’s important we fight for all women.”
