Lucy Spraggan is looking back
ELLA GAUCI talks to the singer-songwriter about her reworked album, marriage and the music industry
As Lucy Spraggan gets ready to sing her beloved hit Sober there is a rumbling in the audience. Looking out over the 2,000 people in Manchester Academy, fans across the room start holding up pieces of paper. She squints to read one under the bright lights: “Always With You”. It’s the slogan adopted by Lucy’s fanbase, and a reminder that you’re never alone.
That is how Lucy Spraggan’s music has been making listeners feel for over a decade. After her X Factor audition went viral in 2012 – the clip since amassing over 52 million views on YouTube – Lucy went on to release seven studio albums, write a bestselling book and tour the world with legends like Melissa Etheridge. Her career has been marked by a number of huge changes: she’s gone sober, gone blonde, and focused on her mental health and wellbeing journey, inspiring others to do the same.
