SUSAN’S MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE
If you’re a fan of David Whitaker’s swashbuckling, torridly romantic and entirely wonderful novelisation Doctor Who and the Crusaders (and if you’re not, what’s wrong with you?), you will doubtless be familiar with an altogether remarkable incident which occurs halfway down its very first page. In a prologue designed to bring the casual reader up to speed since the events of Doctor Who in an Exciting Adventure with the Daleks, Whitaker fills us in on the departure of Susan and the arrival of Vicki, in the process dropping the unexpected bombshell that the Doctor’s granddaughter has decided to ‘share her future with David Cameron, a young man she had met and fallen in love with during that terrible struggle between the Doctor and his arch-enemies.’ Yes, that’s right. Not, as you might have expected, David Campbell, but David Cameron. Apparently Susan is building a new and better world for the human race with the help of Britain’s silver-tongued charmer of a Prime Minister. More news on that story as we get it.
