Episodic approach
Unlike Doctor Who’s original format, the programme was now in its third year of largely single-episode adventures, with various dramatic threads being pulled together in the series finale. So it’s less instructive to compare individual stories than to consider each series as a whole, analysing how the audience varied across its 13 weeks. With more detailed reporting available, we can also see how each episode’s audience grew, from the initial broadcast to those catching up via home recordings and repeats.
