In this ambitious Roguelike shooter from what is essentially a rebranded version of Ken Levine’s Irrational Games, the BioShock designer’s long-touted idea of ‘narrative Legos’ (yes, we know) manifests in a modular story, with three rather needy characters competing for your attention and responding in various ways when it’s denied. Spurn sheriff Tom, for instance, and he could pop up to criticise Nefertiti – or, if you accept a mission for young Hope, he might sabotage a door to prevent you fleeing a battle. Were Warner Bros a little less prone to litigation, perhaps Ghost Story Games might consider calling it the Frenemies system?
