How did the group start? seam collective was founded in late 2012 by four friends, Desiree Jeans,Tabitha Stewart, Penny Wheeler and the late Dr Linda Row after finishing an MA in textiles at Bath Spa University in September 2012.We loved working in the same space together, sharing ideas and inspiration, and wanted to keep going.
Is
there
an
overriding
principle
that
binds
you
together?
At our first meeting we discussed what we wanted from a textile collective and wrote our ideas on Post-it notes. Those initial ideas became seam’s aims and objectives and still bind us together today. Our aims are to support each other, share our best work and a love of textiles, and focus on local opportunities, local production and forging local bonds. Initially, the local area was Bath and its surrounds, but during the pandemic, meeting online convinced us that we could extend our reach to South West England.
