Mark Frost
THE CO-CREATOR OF TWIN PEAKS ON THE SHOW’S KEY MOMENTS
WORDS MIKE MUNCER
TWIN PEAKS CHANGED television forever with its surreal mix of procedural mystery, soap opera and arthouse horror. Much of the credit for that unique blend has gone over the years to the late, legendary David Lynch, but Twin Peaks was the creation of two men: Lynch and seasoned TV writer Mark Frost. The duo were a match made in prestige-TV heaven, Frost grounding the show’s central ‘who killed Laura Palmer?’ mystery while always giving Lynch room to go full Lynch. As Frost puts it, “I’m the Paul McCartney to David’s John Lennon!” With all episodes dropping on MUBI this month, Frost reflects back on some of the moments that helped Twin Peaks peak.

TWIN PEAKS: SEASON 2, EPISODE 22 1991
“This is the last image of Season 2, which we hoped was going to set up Season 3, exploring what would happen if Bob possessed Dale Cooper, but that was slightly delayed by 25 years! During Season 2 the network had given us short shrift and moved us to Saturday nights, which was a dead zone for quality television at that time. David directed this final episode with everything he had in him. Frank Silva [Bob] was the sweetest, kindest person and it was hilarious to us that he became the stuff of people’s nightmares as Bob.”
