THE UNCOOL
AUTHOR CAMERON CROWE
★★★★★
This gorgeous memoir from writer-director Cameron Crowe only touches on his film career. Instead, it’s a personal history of his first vocation as music journalist — in effect, a novelisation of his 2000 autobiographical film Almost Famous. Crowe is a superb raconteur of rock romance, all anchored in familial pathos; his eccentric mother is a highlight, still hoping her son will go to law school, even after he wins an Oscar. Beautiful.
