AYO EDEBIRI AND ANDREW GARFIELD ON THEIR PROVOCATIVE NEW DRAMA AFTER THE HUNT
WORDS JOHN NUGENT
Clockwise from top left: Andrew Garfield as Hank;
Ayo Edebiri plays PhD student Maggie.
In Luca Guadagnino’s After The Hunt, Andrew Garfield and Ayo Edebiri are at serious odds. He plays Hank, a Yale philosophy professor and colleague of Julia Roberts’ Alma. When Edebiri’s younger PhD student Maggie accuses Hank of sexual assault, they become locked in a bruising psychological battle of accountability and ethics. Thankfully, when Empire meets the pair on a sunny terrace the day after the film’s premiere at the Venice Film Festival, they’re on friendly form. Edebiri even tries out her best English accent, to Garfield’s delight. (“It’s the ghost of Margaret Thatcher!” Edebiri claims.) They tell us about their unique collaboration. \
