This 1964 shot (right), is taken looking at Pier Head from about three-quarters of the way along the pier where a steam crane is at work. Note the worker with no fall-arresting safety equipment as is mandatory today, and he is standing on point rodding that is also not allowed today! The common reference point in the ‘now’ shot (below) is the dome above the platform canopy – but reproducing this image is physically impossible today given that where the original was taken is now open air above the sea.
