Anyone with young children will feel complete empathy with the plight faced by the family of young Chloe Purvis, the nine-year-old Fort William girl in need of stem cell treatment.
Brave Chloe was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), a rare type of blood cancer, at the end of last year aft er her mum initially took her to the GP aft er she became out of breath and abnormally tired. However, following further blood sample tests in the past few weeks, doctors have now come to the conclusion that she has severe aplastic anaemia, a non-cancerous blood condition.
If the medical experts are correct with the new diagnosis, that is brilliant news for Chloe, her family and her many friends. Chloe’s mum, Sarah, is understandably cautious in how she has taken the news, having had setbacks previously and with the knowledge that her daughter will still have to undergo a bone marrow transplant and other treatment.
