2000 FIRST EDITION
KART SPEED PARK, TOA BAJA, PUERTO RICO 18th NOVEMBER 2000

Latin rhythm and tropical paradise in a land that has been contaminated by Sao Paolo cement, by fast-food restaurants and by American products, but a country that is as wonderful as ever warmed by the heartiness of its people and its beautiful beaches, the ones that we often see in postcards with palms and a marvelous crystal clear sea. This is Puerto Rico, the “island of dreams” counting almost four million inhabitants that hosted 125 Rotax karters last year - the same class that is now having great success everywhere in Europe - drivers that have given life to the the world first Rotax MAX Challenge Grand Finals in 2000. Sixty-six entries representing nineteen countries (Australia, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, GB, Italy, Malaysia, New Zealand, Norway, Holland, Puerto Rico, South Africa, Sweden and Switzerland), for a four-day non-stop show that saw the very young driver Gavin Cronje proclaimed winner. The South African “urogane” stood out from the practice rounds where he was the fastest in the timed practice, and then in the races he won two out of three and ended up with the same number of points as New Zealander Dale Verrall
