I’ve just got home from the motorcycle Trade Expo show – I was doing a few bits there – and it was pretty good. It’s a bit like the NEC, except that it’s (mostly) trade only, quite a small affair and more focused on the parts, oils, after-market and clothing type business, although, of course, the manufacturers are also present. It was good to see everyone, though there were a few hangovers in evidence as they had a big do on the Sunday night. Like any business event, never mind what type, when the drinks are free folk will make hay! Anyway, how good was it to see Jonny Rea at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards? I was so pleased for him and as I was there I was able to tell him in person. I also predicted the top three for him, because I know how passionate bikers are when it comes to thrusting our passion into the public eye. Like I said last month, Fogarty wouldn’t have won that jungle thing without bikers voting for him. That was also a close-run affair, as he was only a couple of thousand votes off the winner and we had Fleet Street people asking who the hell he was! Not a bad thing, though, wouldn’t you say?
