WATCH IN PERSON
MOTOGP & WORLD SUPERBIKES
Top level motorcycle racing isn’t just great to watch on the telly, it’s also brilliant to attend and admire with your own mince pies. While we’ll have rounds of both series in the UK, which will be the biggest ones for us, it’s more than worth putting the time, money and effort in to visit rounds abroad. Plus, there’s nothing quite like having a mega event for a destination if you want to go touring. Here, we’ll look forwards to the UK based events, but also list the very best ones to attend in person.
MOTOGP
While the next few years look to be the playground of the incredible Marc Marquez, we’ve not too many years left to watch the man whose records he’s breaking, and still chasing – Valentino Rossi. The old boy has won at least one race a season over the last few years and is there or thereabouts in the title chases. We’d never put a tenth title past him, and bear in mind that if he somehow won it in 2018 he’d likely hang up his leathers – so this could be the last year you can see him race. At the top level, at any rate…
Silverstone – 26th August
The one most of us will likely go to, Silverstone rarely disappoints in terms of race action and drama – but then, it’s rare that old super-fast circuits ever do! Silverstone put in a huge amount of effort into the event, providing lots of things to do for all the family, concerts, stage shows with racers and much, much more. If we want to keep a MotoGP event in the UK with all the developing countries clamouring for a round, it needs to be attended well by us, so let’s all go! The only downside, if you can call it that, is that in 2017 there was only the three GP classes running, where in the past some of the BSB classes, or the LC Pro Am have packed the schedule, so here’s hoping they add something extra once again. www.silverstone.co.uk
