Oban Rotary Club’s Iain MacIntyre hands over a £600 cheque to help with tournament running costs.
The West Highland Tennis Championship took place in Oban last weekend for the 47th year with players travelling from as far as Texas to compete. the ‘unique’ tournament caters for competitors of all ages and abilities, with local competitions, under 18s and championship events. Oban’s Gregor Brydon shone in the local events, Kirsty Robertson took home the prestigious ladies championship singles trophy and Nicolas Rosenzweig was crowned men’s champion. Nicolas said: ‘I just want to say thanks to Mary and everyone who makes this tournament possible. ‘I go to many tournaments across the world and this is one of the most welcoming.’ Referee Colin Alanbidge, who first played in the tournament in 1977, said: ‘the West Highland tournament is unique. ‘A lot of the time tournaments are restricted to certain age groups. ‘the players feel they get looked a er here and their play is appreciated compared to the fairly banal settings they usually experience.
