How free writing can help process complex trauma
It may sound deceptively simple, but studies show there are a wide range of benefits to ‘free writing’ – or allowing yourself to write continuously about a memory that’s been circulating in your head – on to paper, without self-criticism, judgement or rumination. This helps you work through traumatic events you’ve experienced as a child, making it easier for you to make sense of them and store them in a different place in your brain, so that you can move on from them.
