In bloom

Arrange a bouquet like a pro: first, put spiky kenzan (a device used in Japan to secure flowers) at the base of a low-footed bowl or vase. Cut a piece of chicken wire large enough to fold over in a double layer so it fits snug above the kenzan. Secure with waterproof tape. Add water to just cover the kenzan spikes, then use them to stand flowers up straight and the wire to angle them. Arrange your blooms at various heights. ‘Go at least two-thirds higher than the height of the bowl. Group flower types together, in a wave of colour,’ says Talena Lowther of JamJar Flowers.
