WHICH TYPE?

THE VALUE FOR total sugars used on nutrition labels includes both naturally occurring sugars (found in dried fruit such as dates, sultanas, raisins and apricots) and free sugars – the type we should cut down on.

Cereal bars may sound healthy, but they can still include a lot of free sugars. Look at the ingredients list: sugar, honey, molasses, glucose syrup, invert sugar syrup, fructose and dextrose, for example, are common ingredients that count as free sugars. And the higher up the ingredients list they appear, the more of them the product contains.
