Drinks, powders, capsules, gummies – the global collagen market is booming and there’s no shortage of celebrity brand ambassadors. But do these supplements actually work?

They say you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone, and this definitely applies to collagen.
“It’s the structural protein that gives skin that youthful bounce and firmness,” says Dr Martin Kinsella, an aesthetic doctor and founder of Cheshire-based Re-enhance, which has branches in West Yorkshire, London and Majorca (re-enhance.com). “But as we reach our mid-20s, it starts to rapidly deplete. In fact, we lose 1% every year from then on.”
