These are the hair and make-up trends that caught our eye at the SS23 shows. Will these high-fashion finishes influence your look this season?
MAXIMALIST LASHES
Inky, elongated lashes stole the show at Givenchy. But we’re not talking about doll-like eyes; here, the hairs are clumped together to create a more graphic, spiky finish. Set against bleached brows and glossy, natural skin, a stark, bulky lash line reads more grunge than glamorous. To get the look, there is a wave of new double-sided mascara wands you need to know about. The idea is to use one side to layer on product and lengthen lashes, then flip it over and use the other side to sculpt and add definition.

LIP GL AZE
This painterly lip look was the talking point at Ulla Johnson, where the pink pigment was concentrated in the centre of the mouth, under a glistening gloss. Bobbi Brown makeup artist Romy Soleimani created a two-tone finish, using a softening, satin orange lipstick as the base and then patting on the bright pink hue. Romy finished with a coat of Bobbi Brown’s gloss shimmer to give lips a cushiony look with a glassy shine.

WET-LOOK ROOTS
Similar high-shine hair finishes have been cropping up for a couple of seasons now, but this dual-texture version at Badgley Mischka, where the mid-lengths and ends are dry, is much more wearable.
Marc suggests adding a wave if your hair is naturally straight and recommends using a priming product on the roots. “I love the L’Oréal Professionnel Tecni.ART Pli Shaper, because it’s a wet spray with hold that doesn’t dry crispy,” he tells hello!. “Use your fingers to rake your hair away from your face, then mist the roots with a gel spray. To achieve a little root lift, place one hand on your crown and, while pressing down, gently tease out some sections by lifting the hair around your hairline.
“Apply some more hold spray to the roots while slicking the sides behind your ears with your fingertips. Finish by scrunching your ends with some dry shampoo.”
