IAMDDB BRIGHT SPARK
Back with new music, the urban jazz star talks about her musical roots, touring with Lauryn Hill and her “chaotic lifestyle” on the road
As ayoung girl, musician Diana De Brito, better known by her stage name IAMDDB, never dreamt she would one day tour the world, let alone take to the stage with big-name artists such as Grammy-winning rapper Lauryn Hill.
“The Queen herself – to this day it gives me shivers. Lauryn is forever an inspiration. I learnt so much from her,” the 26-year-old urban jazz artist from Manchester tells hello!, reflecting on her time supporting the US singersongwriter on her world tour in 2018.
“She taught me so much and I could relate to some of the things she’s been through,” she continues, adding that her experience of touring with Lauryn – and with US rapper Bryson Tiller in 2017 – “programmed me to be a warrior. I just keep going even when I’m tired.”
